The Crime Scene Unit currently consists of one Sergeant, five full time crime scene detectives, one full time latent fingerprint examiner, two full time evidence vault custodians, one full time fingerprint techician, and two part time administrative assistants.

The duties/ responsibilities of the Crime Scene Unit include the processing of crime scenes, operating a latent fingerprint laboratory, a full service photo laboratory (color, black and white), serve as the evidence custodians for the department, prepare and submit current arrest fingerprint cards for adults and juveniles and conduct investigations.

Two investigators are latent print qualified with an additional two investigators 10 print qualified and undergoing training to become latent print qualified. Each investigator also has an additional area of specialty in one of the following fields: blood spatter, entomology, special photography, skull reconstruction and composite drawings, mass disaster crime scene identification and weapons of mass destruction response.

The Crime Scene Unit has a AFIS (Automated Finger Print Identification System) and LIVESCAN terminal which is linked to the state data base at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
