The Prevention and Resource Bureau consists of the Crime Prevention Unit and the School Resource Unit.
The Crime Prevention Unit's purpose is to improve the quality of life by educating citizens, maintaining and providing effective crime prevention programs and establishing relationships and partnerships with the community. The Unit is responsible for helping to educate citizens about how to reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime. This goal is accomplished through various programs offered for free by the Unit. The Crime Prevention Unit also visits local businesses to discuss safety tips and recommend security measures and coordinates the
Citizen's Academy.
The School Resource Unit's main objective is to
“
enhance students' educational opportunities by promoting a safe and secure learning environment.” The Unit currently serves forty-five schools within the district. In addition to prevention programs, deputies also teach basic understanding of the Criminal Justice System and the role of law enforcement officers and their duties. School Resource deputies also take law enforcement action as required within their assigned school.
