The Criminal Intelligence Unit supports the sworn staff of the Leon County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies. They are responsible for gathering and analyzing maintain and disseminate information on activities and operations of individuals, associates or groups suspected of, or involved in, criminal activity. The goal of the Unit is to provide information to the law enforcement personnel that will help them in their effort to solve crime. By the nature of this type of work, much of this section's activity is confidential, and for dissemination to law enforcement only.

The Unit is also responsible for the identification and tracking of criminal street gangs, criminal street gang members and criminal street gang activity. The unit has identified more than 20 active criminal street gangs in Tallahassee/Leon County and more than 250 members.
