The Sexual Predator Unit is responsible for a variety of tasks. It was established in 2006, for the investigation and enforcement of Florida's Sexual Offender/Predator registration laws and community notification of sexual offenders and predators residing in Leon County. The Sexual Offender Unit completes follow-up investigations for sexual offender arrests, and insures that sex offenders are properly registered, verifies addresses at which sex offenders are registered.

If you have questions, concerns, or updated information about sexual offenders/predators, contact the Sexual Offender Unit at spu@leoncountyfl.gov.

Registration of sexual offenders/predators is conducted at the Leon County Sheriff's Office main office. The office is located at 2825 Municipal Way, Tallahassee, Florida. Hours of registration are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, excluding holidays.

A Florida law, effective 7/1/96, requires the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to maintain an updated list of Registered Sexual Predators in this state after a court has made a written finding designating them as a Sexual Predator as that term is defined by Florida statute.

Chapter 97-299, Laws of Florida, requires certain Sex Offenders to directly register with law enforcement or to have information compiled by the Department of Corrections, with the information to be provided to FDLE. Florida law makes that information available to the public. There are currently over 470 sexual offenders in Leon County.

Under Florida law, e-mail addresses are public records. If you do not want your e-mail address released in response to a public records request, do not send electronic mail to this entity. Instead, contact this office by phone or in writing.
