On 12/30/96 at approximately 1730 Hours, Leon County
Sheriff's Deputies responded to the south side of Silver
Lake off of Aenon Church Road in reference to the
location of an unidentified female body. It was
discovered that this person was Christie E. Smith . Smith
was a known prostitute and drug user that frequented the
Georgia Street area. While she could be primarily found
in the central part of the city, she also frequented
various areas in and around Highway 20. Evidence located
on scene, and then confirmed via autopsy, indicated that
Smith had been strangled.
Because Smith was very active as a prostitute, it has
been difficult to determine from witnesses specifically
who she was last with or who she may have traveled with
that day. If you have any questions or information
