EARTH HAVEN PROGRAM FLYER
LCSO partners with the University of South Florida to host a certified bee management program that allows incarcerated individuals to earn vocational certification in beekeeping.
LCSO hosts a 64” x 64” beehive enclosure with four active beehives, populated with 50,000 honey-producing bees.
LCSO’s E.A.R.T.H. Haven houses a small pond used to grow mosquito fish. The small fish eat mosquito larvae, which helps reduce the mosquito population.
On July 20, 2024, LCSO gave away mosquito fish to community members. LCSO plans to hold future giveaways to provide fish to county residents.
Mosquito fish are not intended to be placed in natural bodies of water, as they can disrupt ecosystems. They can be placed in standing water, such as backyard ponds, fountains, animal troughs, and unused swimming pools, to effectively and naturally manage mosquito populations.
LCSO’s E.A.R.T.H. Haven property houses several citrus trees, including Satsuma and Meyer lemon trees.
When the fruit is ready for harvest, LCSO will share it with neighbors in the community, homeless shelters, transitional facilities, and others.
