Captain Jeff Allen

Investigations

Jeff Allen, a native of Tallahassee, graduated Godby High School in 1984. He went on to Tallahassee Community College for his Associate degree, then Thomas University where he graduated with a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice. Captain Allen began his career at the Leon County Sheriff’s Office in October 1984 as a Communications Officer.

After completing the Law Enforcement Academy, Captain Allen transferred to Uniform Patrol in 1987. In 1989 he transferred to the School Resource Unit where he worked at Griffin Middle School and Godby High School. Captain Allen transferred to Criminal Investigations in 1994. While in investigations he worked in the Property Unit, Narcotics, and Violent Crimes. While in the Narcotics Unit he was assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force.

In 2002, when promoted to Sergeant he went back to Uniform Patrol. He also worked as a Sergeant in the Criminal Investigations Bureau in the Property Unit, Narcotics Unit, and Violent Crimes Unit. Captain Allen was promoted to Lieutenant in 2014 where was a Watch Commander and Field Training and Evaluation Program Commander. While working in this capacity he was able to work with the Field Training Officers and Field Training Sergeants to work with the new hires to get them prepared for being deputies with Leon County. After completing this assignment he transferred to Criminal Investigations where he worked with the Violent Crimes Unit, Special Victims Unit, ICAC, Crime Scene and the Property and Evidence Section. In 2018 he was promoted to his current position as Captain in Uniform Patrol.

Captain Allen has been married for more than 34 years to his wife Karen Allen. They have one daughter, Brittany Jackson, one son, Colby Allen, a son in-law Brad Jackson, and a granddaughter Finley Jackson. He is active in many organizations including United Way, the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch, American Heart Association, Special Olympics, and Children’s Home Society to name a few.
