Deputy Dean Crump
Deputy Crump has served with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office in Tallahassee for the last 20 years. During his time at the Leon County Sheriff's Office, he worked in uniform patrol for six years followed by seven years in the School Resource Unit, Criminal Investigations and in 2015, started serving in the Community Relations Unit (formerly the Crime Prevention Unit.) While in the School Resource Unit, Deputy Crump went back to school at Tallahassee Community College and completed his AA degree and then continued on to Florida State University where he earned his bachelor degree in Criminology/Criminal Justice, with a minor in Psychology.
During his time as a school resource deputy, Crump was a member of the Florida Association of School Resource Officers, the Florida Gang Investigators Association and also represented LCSO by sitting on the board of the Responsible Decision Making Coalition of Leon County. He was also a member of Lambda Alpha Epsilon, a professional fraternity, while attending FSU and served as the organization’s vice president.
Deputy Crump has received several training certifications within his tenure at LCSO. He has his General Instructor Techniques certification, Florida School Resource Officer certification and is a Crime Prevention Practitioner from the Florida Attorney General. He has also been certified in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) for Schools as well as a certification in Citizens Response to Active Shooter Events (C.R.A.S.E.). Deputy Crump has numerous years of experience in training different groups of people. He has spoke as a trainer to many groups involving communication, conflict management, taking initiative and identifying your personality for better working relationships (The Personality Color Wheel). Through these endeavors, Deputy Crump has given professional and meaningful relationships to the community which has shown a positive attitude with the public for the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. In his current position with the Community Resource Unit, Deputy Crump has formed greater relationships with the public with community groups, schools and neighborhood groups.
Deputy Crump was a former member of the Business and Professional Women of Florida and the Tallahassee Quarterback Club. He is currently a member of the Antebellum Statehood Krewe of Springtime Tallahassee and the Tallahassee Moose Lodge #1075. Over the course of many years Deputy Crump has volunteered his time with different sporting organizations, including coaching young kids in softball, baseball and other sports. Deputy Crump has also given his time to the LCSO mentoring program at Leon County Schools and other local children’s programs to help form a tighter bond within our community.
He has been married for over 25 years to his wife, Christy, who also graduated from FSU. He has two daughters. His oldest daughter, Sheridan, has an AA and bachelor degree from TCC and St. Leo University with concentration in clinical psychology, and is starting her master’s degree in the fall. His youngest daughter, Baylor, attends Leon High School and will begin her junior year in the fall of 2018. She is a member of the Leon High Band, the Marching Red Coats.
