Civil Process Unit
NOTICE: Changes related to COVID-19 safety: The following procedural changes are to effectively serve the citizens of Leon County during this unprecedented event.
Effective August 3, 2020: The Leon County Sheriff's Office Civil Process Unit has been instructed to serve all Civil paperwork except Writ of Possessions and Eviction Summons for Non-payment, per the Governor's moratorium. All other paperwork is now accepted. The Civil lobby is now open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00AM to 2:00PM, or paperwork can be mailed to P.O. Box 727 Tallahassee, FL 32302.

The civil process unit handles the service of various legal non-enforceable documents including:
- Civil summons
- Subpoenas
- Garnishments
- Tax deeds.
- Divorce Papers
- Child Support
The civil unit averages:
- 2300 papers received per month
- 2000 papers served per month
The Civil Unit serves all of Leon County including a number of state and governmental agencies, private attorneys as well as the general public. Documents must be served in a timely manner and in many cases require a response from the defendant back to the court within a limited amount of time. In order to ensure timely service of your process, the Sheriff’s Office requires a service packet and fees.
